Default Successful EMA indicator trade.

Hi folks.

Here's my latest trade, you might have seen it if you have visited my
blog but here goes.

Combined with that the Japanese fiscal year ends on the last of March
and a entry point based on some EMA lines, I now have a very nice trade
going.

I added EMA5 (grey line), EMA13 (red line) and EMA62 (blue line) to my charts.

Now, GBP/JPY started to come down a little bit and my hunch has been
that we would see a fall after it hit 233 yesterday. That's my first entry
indicator, my hunch.

Then it happened, the EMA5 crossed the EMA13 line, now, we have a
small but yet a downmove established. Then the lower bollinger band also
crossed the EMA65 (blue line), that's when I entered the sell trade
at 232.09.

And to top it off, the EMA5 line also crossed the EMA65 line and then the
EMA13 also crossed the EMA65, and down it went. :-)

The trade is still open, +100 pips is locked in though but I guess it will
be going down all week so I will hold on to the trade.

Here's the chart (hourly GBP/JPY)

The key here, at least when I am trading is that I take the shot when some-
thing interesting appears on the charts. Will it work every time, no, but it
will work many times and ones you hit it, there's a lot of profits to
be made.

Fundamentally, USD is having loads of problems right now at this point, and thanks for sharing your strategy! Will be trying it out

Great trade ibiobiz!

Another way to look at this trade:

If you draw a simple trendline through 14th March low and 19th March low, you will see a trendline and trend break yesterday in the 232.00 price area.

A second confirmation is around 231.50 price area, where on the 30min time frame it crosses with the 200 Simple Moving Average and 200 EMA several times before going even lower.

I love the 200 EMA part especially. It's a good line on where the market is heading towards to in general.

Hey folks.

Thanks, the trade is still alive, +200 pips locked in with S/L though but
since my hunch is that it will continue down, I will hold on to the trade
and see where it takes me. :-)

Thanks for the EMA200 line Dan, didn't use that, never had either, needless
to say, I am using it now.

ibibiz,

I wasn't going to join this forum until I read your post. That's really fascinating that you used the lower bollinger band as a sell trigger when it crossed the EMA65. Seems like you caught the downward sloping trend early on (a trend is your friend). Plus, it also looks like you caught the right end of fundamental news on Mar 28th. I find that strategy interesting. Well done. Good trade !

How long you been trading?

I tend to concentrate on EUR/USD. I'm about 400 pips up over the past 2 weeks. Have not lost a trade in 2 months (in a bit of a wining streak).

Hi TTT.

Thanks.

I have only been trading since 18:th of Sep 2006 to be exact. I started out
using a carrytrade/hedging strategy and while doing that I just sat there
and watched the charts until I saw candlesticks in my sleep.

I was just looking for things that happened before GBP/JPY put in a big move
and when similar things occurred I tried to catch the moves.

You can say I am a catch trader, lol. I am entering trades with a very tight
S/L when I think the setup looks ok. I miss a few of course but I also nail
quit many moves so I am doing more then ok.

In swing trading like in day trading fundamentals are completely ignored. You want fast moving, volatile stocks, that give you as much bang for your buch as possible.

Here is more or less what I do for day trading.

I keep a list of volatile (in terms of Average True Range) and trending (Momentum) stocks. I don't trade the first 45-60 minutes, but give the 5day intraday charts of the stocks a look over. I concentrate on a small number of them.

What I trade are intraday breakouts in the direction of the trend (stock and market), using 1.5-2% stops under the most recent dips. I rarely have more then three or four trades running at the time. I close out 30-60 minutes before closing time, and also when I've reached profit or loss targets for the day.

In these volatile times, things go pretty well, although I opened the stops, somewhat.
