Default Does anyone know any software to recover deleted files?

Hi, I have a small problem for which I would like you people to help me out. I have been using my system since a few years which runs XP on it. A few days back ,I had been out and during that time my kids deleted some important video files and databases that are now required. To have more troubles I have re-installed windows on that and now I need the deleted ones back. So, I am looking for a software that can be the best resort to my problem.

Please help me out in getting one!!!!

I believe that you must not be knowing that there are many software related to your problem. They are called data recovery softwares. All of them have their features and the selection is dependant on your problem and their performance. All of them are not good. My brother uses Recover My Files
which you can use on internal hard drives as well as outside storage devices such as external hard drives, floppy disks and all sorts of other removable data storage devices. Its a good software to recover files of all types….even the ones in your case.

I think this one will be an ideal one for you.

Hello Denim,

sorry to hear about what happened to your system ..

If windows were reinstalled on the same disk the deleted files were located ... i would say you have almost no chance of recovering your data.. even if data were on a different partition, if you have used it further for additional work then again the chances of recovery are reduced ..

Nice programs :
Restorer2000 ( url: Unformat and File Recovery Software for Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista )
FreeUndelete ( url: Free Undelete Utility Recovers Deleted Files, Unerases Lost Data )

take care and let us know what happens ...

When you delete a file in Windows o.s. the file is not really deleted, it changes the extension and the operative system knows that this space is free to be filled with other files. So you can recover your files if in that moment you don´t use your computer for anothing else (in fact the o.s. is being used but less active). Anyway if you are using your computer now you could recover some of your files if they are not filled by others.

Try this free one:

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File Recovery - Home

and good luck!

Well ... to be technically correct .. it is not renamed ... it is deleted from the master file table (MFT) .. but most modern operating systems hold a duplicate of it for emergency cases...

This MFT holds the pointers to where the file is located on the disk.

This mirrored content is what most recovery utils read and try to reclaim the space previously occupied from the deleted file..

.. had to show off
