I just had to share this here! On the largest webmaster forum around, a lot of things happen, but this particular thing caught my attention.

Now, we all know the TalkGold philosophy, money before ideals. He can say whatever he likes, but the advertising used in that place speaks for itself. However, with a $200,000 bid in cash for a great domain name, it shows how well he is doing from it all. Guys, this is where a lot of your HYIP spends end up. You give money to hyips, they need to advertise, and TG is more than happy to assist them.

See it here - I'm glad it was declined, that domain name shouldn't be corrupted lol.

Hm, folks, maybe it's early to judge. I don't know what Brian wants to use the domain for, but I don't think it's appropriate for a HYI related site. Brian is an experienced webmaster and I don't think he'd offer 200k for general domain name and then use it for HYIP thing.

Nah, wasn't implying he would, since it would make no sense. More likely some kind of networking site. But considering the state of TG, I wouldn't like to think where that money has come from.

He sounds a bit clueless in that thread, and 3 others, where he asks for ideas for it.

Would be a perfect domain for your projects eh Simon?

He really should just slam a directory script on there for now and lose that blog imho... think he overestimates how hard that would be to set up and underestimates how much extra SE traffic it would attract than the current unfocussed setup.

Or imagine if del.ico.us had started out with their backend on that domain... I bet they would be multiple times more popular by now. (as their weird domain name is almost impossible to share by word of mouth)

I think he's determined to do something "original" with it, and so is taking a long time deciding what to do, which has made him totally indecisive lol.

$200k isn't half what he could get for it if he sold it though, especially with everyone wanting to get in on social networking these days. That's what I'd use it for - taking social networking to the next level.

yeah agree... I posted a small idea for him but he didnt seem to like it or maybe didnt get it... I thought he sounds like he wants some out of the box script solution rather than anything unique.

A friend of mine actually had an idea for a very interesting twist on a dating site (I think it would be viral in combo with a name like links.com), so I'm trying to see whether Rich (domain owner) might be interested in hearing a pitch of the idea. He said he wants something unique after all!
