Fundamentals :: Do you follow them?
I used to be a big "fundamental analytical" trader. Looking at fundamentals till it affected my trading adversely. Yes, true in the long run fundamentals drive the markets but in the short to medium term you might discover its technically driven. At the moment, I'm totally ignoring fundamentals.
For example, at the moment, fundamentals point to a weak dollar. Had I followed this I certainly would have lost several trades. Therefore, you'll have to excuse me for not posting much here. I could give you a detailed analysis on fundamentals but trust me it will cause you serrious damage. rofl
What do you think?

Re: Fundamentals :: Do you follow them?
I'm between fundamental and technical, and will try to mix them together before opening any positions.
For news or statistics release, I use TTN (Trade The News) as well as Bloomberg radio.
If the stats is pointing on the same direction as well as technical trading, I'll open a position.

Jude,
I'm going to do you a big favor and put you on the right starting track mentally.
PLACE MORE RELIANCE ON TECHNICALS.
Remember that.
I wish you well and good bye.

TickerTapeTrader, we're on the same wavelength here. I don't like to look at fundamentals and see how I could interpret them. I look at the chart, and I say: if the price does this, I buy; if the price does that, I sell. Something around those lines anyway
I hope you decide to visit this forum and post your opinions occasionally.
Regards,
Dan

Hi Dan,
We've never met but I've heard about you from Jude. I'm really glad that he's learning from a variety of traders, it can only be good for him.
Just wanted to add something here about fundamental trading, an easy way to look at it is simply to see how the release will affect the interest rate for that particular cross. for example, how will the budget deficit affect the inflation... and we all know that more inflation means more interest. or what does the jobs report mean for inflation, is it getting better or worse. This is very simplistic but it helps to get a general feeling for where the market might go.
For me its another tool, I don't rely on fundamentals alone, but they sure do help. I think that a mix of fundamentals and technicals, if a trader can learn to read them is a great help.
Sometimes there is no technical reason for a move like what happened recently with the carry trade situation, and end even more recently (on Friday in fact) when the US decided to impose a tarriff on Chinese paper... the market read it as a possible beginning of a trade war and reacted like it did, the dollar fell like a brick, when in fact all weak it was clawing its way up a little.
For me reading the funamentals is like zooming out to the weakly chart and looking for a general expected direction, then i zoom in to the daily , 4 hourly etc charts and find my entries and exits.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that fndamentals are just another tool to help me trade.
I look forward to chatting some more.
Regards
PeterB

Re: Fundamentals :: Do you follow them?
Yep, Yep and Yep been following fundamentals as a main strategy and that's how I'll keep doing it.
Saying not to follow fundamentals is just plain crazy. I've seen pure tech accounts fried because their handlers said... "The trend is going this way" "This indicator says that" and so forth... this may be true in some cases, but simple words like "Vigilance" "Deficit" "Revisions" have and will always make those indicators seem like nothing.
Im not saying to fully base all your trades on Fundamentals too, what Im saying is a synergy between Tech and Funda will make your life a lot easier. Knowing WHEN to enter and exit and WHY to enter and exit will help you trade a lot better and smarter.
Trade Smart, not often.
Pffftt.... Jude? Following pure Tech? Then why did you tell me... "Im waiting for that bung***** Bernake to speak later"
hehehe

Re: Fundamentals :: Do you follow them?
I'm trying to blend both together, but I have to work more towards the Technical side right now. For fundamentals, it'll come as long as I keep myself in the loop with news and reactions to them; and thank for introducing TTN to me tianx

Re: Fundamentals :: Do you follow them?
I tried to mix both together but sometimes known fundamental is useless.
