Alright potential Linux users. I'm getting me a 'firestarter' program. But how?

Lesson #1: Getting software.
The newbie GUI with mouse way:
Click System > Synaptics Package Manager
Search 'firestarter'
Click 'firestarter'
Click 'Apply'
downloading...installing... DONE!

But this is how I do it:
The 'appreciating the command line' way:
Open Terminal
type: sudo aptitude install firestarter
downloading...installing... DONE!

OR with a bit of customizing:
Open Terminal
type: apti firestarter
downloading...installing... DONE!

What you got Windoze!? What you got?!

I'm sorry I really don't like Micros**t.
Hey how bout an Apple Mac? I'm all for that.

How bout we take that 'w' word away, and replace it with Ubuntu? So we get:
...but as easy as any Ubuntu!

Plus an exclamation.

I think Linux has already reached a point where it can be said 'it is easy to setup and use'

Whereas Windze Vsta has been getting lotsa usability issues lately, with it's inconsistent interface and the constant 'cancel or allow' for anything u do.

The change in interface in Vsta is so drastic that you pretty much have to learn how to use a different OS. So people now are saying, "I have to learn something new anyway, so maybe I will give Linux a go since it's much cheaper or free"
OR
Stick with XP, it's mature and stable (although I disagree with the stable bit), and people are used to it already.

But too bad XP is gonna get phased out soon enough because of its poor Vister sale.

Lotsa anti-microsh*t stuff, but to be fair, if you are a hardcore PC gamer, then stick with WinXP. Even with Fista, some games don't run properly.

As for games for Linux, you wanna play Glotski? It's pretty fun.

Anyway, sleep time.

I use Windows still. There was a great little project called MicroWinX going, but the author closed it due to it being too much of a hassle. Lucky I downloaded the latest version of it before the close.

For gaming it was the best....pity I don't actually do that anymore!

Interesting, 50mb of stuff in c:\windows only. I was asking around about running bare-minimum windoze, but I thought it would be impossible to find cos it would be illegal to screw with the insides of the OS and then redistribute. I wonder what the interface looks like? It's meant for gaming only right? Not much info on the site.

I stopped playing PC games a long time ago as well, I rather play consoles.

I think a big use of it was going to be gaming, but there were plans to add support for other things. When I tested beta 2.5 a while back, I was able to run quite a few different things off it. I was looking forward to Beta 3 (a lot more software support) but alas it will never be released!

The interface used a very lightweight shell - I forget which - and was mainly done through a right-click menu. Who knows how good it would have become, had it been continued.

MY long, long over-due THANK YOU for this latest Opera info. Actually when I read this quite a while ago I immediately downloaded and had my Opera updated.
Now I can't live without Speed Dial Saving my scrolling down and down the Bookmarks (list is long, but my daily used sites are just a few).

As for Opera features...
I am NADDA expert/guru as far as computer (among others) is concerned, prefer something that makes my life easier - well, if there is such thing about Computer that is

But there are a few things about Opera for me: "Copy to note" - usuful to look up words from websites in dictionary all at once; url in e-mail to "Paste and go" - faster than clicking it (with my slow pc); highlight url in plain text and "Go to url". And of course RSS, then built-in mail client.

If anything, I wish they came with a prettier icon

Cool, glad you found it useful. I quite like the idea of speed dial too, even if it is only another way of displaying a toolbar. Presentation plays a role in the success of different ideas!
