FireFox sessionstore.js file problems at Nobullshit Network Forum

Early this morning I noticed my Firefox becoming evermore sluggish. I went crazy removing add-ons to see which one could be the problem. None of them seem to have been the problem.

I looked into the FireFox folder:

Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxx.default

And there I saw 3,798 sessionstore.js files (numbered, of course). I deleted them and everything seems to be fine. I wonder what the hell happened?

I found that I can disable the session restore feature. So I did. Just set this to false: browser.sessionstore.enabled

Its one of the new features of Mozilla (think from version 2.x)

It saves your browser sessions including window sizes, tabs and data in case of a browser crash or update/restart. If your browser or computer crashes, you will be able to continue as noting happened when you start the browser again (try f.ex. to write half a message on this forum, kill the browser process and then start your brower again. note that a normal close of the browser won't work).

You can turn it off this feature if you wish:
1. type about:config in your url bar.
2. set "browser.sessionstore.enabled" to false.

I rely heavily on the session restore feature. If I accidently put my laptop to sleep with FF open and not minimized, it sometimes freezes while waiting for my wireless connection.

If it becomes sluggish or freezes, I just end FF using Task Manager. I restart it and restore session and everything is back where it was. Prior to the last FF update, it sometimes restored tabs that I had previously closed. Now it seems to work fine.

I don't recommend using Task Manager to close just any program. It just happens to work well with refreshing FF without losing where you were at.

Sounds strange sharon... it might be a problem with your drivers.

I have a sony vaio and never had any problems with FF hanging or getting sluggish... and I can tell you, I use the laptop hibernation function 2-3 times every day without problems. Only time I have problems is once every month or so when windows freaks out because its been running too long.

I mentioned to use the task manager only to let people test this feature out as it wont work with a standard exit/close of FF.

I have a Sony Vaio, too. I think the hanging and sluggishness is less to do with FF and more to do with what all I have running on my laptop. Typically I keep 10-15 tabs on FF, outlook, IE (for the very few things that don't work with FF), 3-5 word windows, 4-5 excel windows, 1-3 access databaes, and messangers/conferences. Plus I have quite a few FF add-ons. To top that off, I run SpyWareDoctor, Kaspersky Security Suite and RegisterMechanic, which are all a bit resource intensive. In addition, Kaspersky has 3 levels of scans and 1 of them runs every time I come out of hibernation. Not to mention other programs and firewall running in the background.

Simply put, I tax my laptop and startup or coming out of hibernation takes a few minutes. While it is coming back to life, everything with an internet connection freezes until my wireless connection is complete.

So, it is not FF's fault, it's mine. LOL

The problems are caused by KeyScrambler, version 1.2. I downloaded the Version 1.2 preview edition as stated below. I went searching for a soliution when my FireFox also created over 7,000 bookmarks.html files! Yikes!
