Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
I'm no IT expert lol. I'm waiting a few more months before I get a new computer then of course, it'll have the Vista already installed. Unless I decide to go back to Mac, which I loved ...
For now, my pc works fine and suits my needs on the XP .. I'm the kind of person who waits awhile anyway whenever tech comes out with something new and improved lol ... b/c I know it'll be not only cheaper later, but some bugaboos will also be eliminated (hopefully)

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
I know Jose I miss having a Mac computer ... had a couple of 'em years ago .. but for work, had to bow to the windows pressure
Mac's may be more expensive, but they are definitely worth it ...
(sorry for going off topic)
Gaby, I'm with you on those reasons for holding out a bit on Vista .. my Gateway pc is 5 yrs old .. still runs good, all things considered, but it's slowed down a bit (despite my regular upkeep) and given it's age, I'd rather just hold out for a brand new pc down the line ..

Why? Now you can easily install windows xp in a new mac and choose to boot any of them, and also you can use any i386 linux live cd with your mac
Why do you need windows?

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
Like I said, at the time I needed to switch to windows for work, that was the solution at the time.
I know nowadays, one can accommodate a Mac to utilize windows programs.
I also am not tech bright lol .. I know how to do basic to maybe intermediate level stuff, but I'm one of those people who need things really dumbed-down when it comes to how to make the most of a computer lol
When I have enough moolah saved up, Mac's the way I'm going to go ..

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
Well you will be making the right decision Dolphin . . . I have used Macs all my working life and although this is posted from a PC laptop I also have a Mac, although it is one of the first releases of the "anglepoise lamp" version it is still more reliable than a PC. I use both Mac and PC at work although that one is an old one running OS9.
What knarks me about PCs is the "boink" sound when a driver does not load up, but does it tell you which one? Not even an error message so you're left wondering which one it was!
Although the old OS 9 on a Mac was prone to crashing now and then, just as with a PC, at least with OS X you have a stable platform and I have never had a crash on mine in about the 4 or 5 years I have had it.

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
From my experience all applications or games worth spending your time with are (or will be) available on the mac (either on Linux or mocos format), so IMHO there is no need in fiddling with windows on a mac anyway. The only downside with mac as I see it, is the price at the moment.

Re: PC vs. Mac
There is an excellent PC vs. Mac subtopic in the Vista thread, so I copied the posts here to continue the discussion.
Do you prefer PC or Mac?
Why?
If you prefer a PC, which operating system do you like?

Re: PC vs. Mac
Mac without a doubt but very expensive for me.
In PC I prefer linux or freebsd/openbsd.

Re: PC vs. Mac
The only reason why I stay with XP at this point is because of compability with games and applications. This is changing and since you can use linux (and windows for that matter) on the macs nowdays I'm seriously considering moving over.
What is also changing and was lacking (and to some extent still is) on the linux side was/is a easy-to-use/managable windows environment. It is not as straight forward as it should be to host non-linux fanatics, such as my parents. Personally I think its a bit sluggish... however, some of my friends thinks I'm crazy saying that.
One of the stronger reasons for moving to mac/linux is the security. I would guess however that could change when/if the masses decides to move over...
