Vista - Is it worth it?
I haven't had a chance to get around to installing vista. Just wanting some advice on the new microsoft OS. I have been getting mixed reactions with vista, some say its great, others are saying it is not. After reading the security thread, I think there is alot of you with great knowledge in the IT arena.
So what do you all think of it?
I know this topic is probably among the top 5 topics in all the forums out there, but I dont want to hear the opinions there, I am seeking opinions here :-)
Thanks

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
I haven't looked at it either, but from what I hear and read I will most likely go over to linux, macos or in worst case stay with XP.

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
I'm running on Vista now.
Now if you're not running on Core2s and have no more than 2gb of ram to spare, Vista is not for you.
On the other hand, it's all eye candy and I don't see many new features as compared to XP (Maybe more security features, but IMO, not worth the upgrade)
Eventually everyone will switch to Vista, but if you don't have a decent fast statiton, don't switch.
I'm running a Vista Home Premium.

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
Vista needs more memory to run, looks a copy of mac (and perhaps that´s it) and of course best security than xp.

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
I'm no IT expert lol. I'm waiting a few more months before I get a new computer then of course, it'll have the Vista already installed. Unless I decide to go back to Mac, which I loved ...
For now, my pc works fine and suits my needs on the XP .. I'm the kind of person who waits awhile anyway whenever tech comes out with something new and improved lol ... b/c I know it'll be not only cheaper later, but some bugaboos will also be eliminated (hopefully)

If you can go back to mac then you don´t need Vista

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
I am reluctant to go to vista..
reasons are:
1. too soon for now. I usually wait for the first security fixes and service packs to come out.. so that the first crop of bugs and insecurities are ironed out.. (cant be too carefull when banking online)
2. It will put my system to its knees from what i have seen and heard so far..
3. Spent too much time disecting the XP system i have to learn it, customize it and take control of it

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
I know Jose I miss having a Mac computer ... had a couple of 'em years ago .. but for work, had to bow to the windows pressure
Mac's may be more expensive, but they are definitely worth it ...
(sorry for going off topic)
Gaby, I'm with you on those reasons for holding out a bit on Vista .. my Gateway pc is 5 yrs old .. still runs good, all things considered, but it's slowed down a bit (despite my regular upkeep) and given it's age, I'd rather just hold out for a brand new pc down the line ..

Why? Now you can easily install windows xp in a new mac and choose to boot any of them, and also you can use any i386 linux live cd with your mac
Why do you need windows?

Re: Vista - Is it worth it?
Like I said, at the time I needed to switch to windows for work, that was the solution at the time.
I know nowadays, one can accommodate a Mac to utilize windows programs.
I also am not tech bright lol .. I know how to do basic to maybe intermediate level stuff, but I'm one of those people who need things really dumbed-down when it comes to how to make the most of a computer lol
When I have enough moolah saved up, Mac's the way I'm going to go ..
