There have been many stories of grandmas & grandpas having no problems with Ubuntu. My dad's pretty old and he's using Ubuntu with no problem in his office. It is difficult to define 'geek' nowadays, but I get the impression that being a 'geek' is generally a negative connotation. What do you all think? Children are being brought up around technology and in the near future I think everyone will be considered a 'geek'. Or will 'geek' lose or change it's meaning?

When people think Linux, they think 'unusable', 'not ready' . I would like that attitude to change. Linux has improved
dramatically for the past few years. I say more so than each iteration of Windoze. After each version of Ubuntu, I eagerly look forward to the next. I say Ubuntu Linux is very
usable. I love Ubuntu and would
never go back to Windoze. So whether Ubuntu is ready for the
general public or not, I'm not too sure about that actually. I say currently, Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, is pretty ready but still needs polish.
You are probably right in saying, "Linux will never
take over the desktop" but I think Linux will be the cause (with the mac as well) of Windoze's decrease in market share even if it's a few percentage. I think that says quite a bit against a mega-corporation with a monopoly.
But hey, Mr. Dell thinks it's ready enough and is already selling these OS on his machines.

No need to port, there are way better alternatives that are Linux native.

True true, how bout a mac instead? I'm also all for the Mac. Hehehe.
Linux may not be as crappy as you might think. How bout trying it out for yourself?

Linux is no longer something that only your lanky pimply geek friend with glasses can use. You forex geeks can use too! Hehehe.
Oh yeah, people get confused and think that Linux is one thing. There are MANY Distributions of Linux, there's Ubuntu, Red Hat, Fedora, Debian, Suse, Gentoo, and hundreds more. Each are different, and some more user-friendlier than other, and some considered not user-friendly at all.
Ubuntu is the one you should give a try. You can try Gentoo if you want.
