The "attack" mode was not one that I initiated. Jr. crapper was "all over" that. But let me go on.
This is in fact, a legitimate opportunity. While it may sound or appear to be an illegitemate chain letter scheme to the uninformed, it is not.
First of all, it is not illegal to send money through the US mail, though they do frown on it, mainly for our safety due to possible loss or theft. The definition of a chain letter is quite clear as per the US Postal Inspection Service. Take particular note of paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Postal service article that follows:

Chain Letters
A chain letter is a "get rich quick" scheme that promises that your mail box will soon be stuffed full of cash if you decide to participate. You're told you can make thousands of dollars every month if you follow the detailed instructions in the letter.

A typical chain letter includes names and addresses of several individuals whom you may or may not know. You are instructed to send a certain amount of money--usually $5--to the person at the top of the list, and then eliminate that name and add yours to the bottom. You are then instructed to mail copies of the letter to a few more individuals who will hopefully repeat the entire process. The letter promises that if they follow the same procedure, your name will gradually move to the top of the list and you'll receive money -- lots of it.

There's at least one problem with chain letters. They're illegal if they request money or other items of value and promise a substantial return to the participants. Chain letters are a form of gambling, and sending them through the mail (or delivering them in person or by computer, but mailing money to participate) violates Title 18, United States Code, Section 1302, the Postal Lottery Statute. (Chain letters that ask for items of minor value, like picture postcards or recipes, may be mailed, since such items are not things of value within the meaning of the law.)

Recently, high-tech chain letters have begun surfacing. They may be disseminated over the Internet, or may require the copying and mailing of computer disks rather than paper. Regardless of what technology is used to advance the scheme, if the mail is used at any step along the way, it is still illegal.

The main thing to remember is that a chain letter is simply a bad investment. You certainly won't get rich. You will receive little or no money. The few dollars you may get will probably not be as much as you spend making and mailing copies of the chain letter.

Chain letters don't work because the promise that all participants in a chain letter will be winners is mathematically impossible. Also, many people participate, but do not send money to the person at the top of the list. Some others create a chain letter that lists their name numerous times--in various forms with different addressee. So, in reality, all the money in a chain is going to one person.

Do not be fooled if the chain letter is used to sell inexpensive reports on credit, mail order sales, mailing lists, or other topics. The primary purpose is to take your money, not to sell information. "Selling" a product does not ensure legality. Be doubly suspicious if there's a claim that the U.S. Postal Service or U.S. Postal Inspection Service has declared the letter legal. This is said only to mislead you. Neither the Postal Service nor Postal Inspectors give prior approval to any chain letter.

Participating in a chain letter is a losing proposition. Turn over any chain letter you receive that asks for money or other items of value to your local postmaster or nearest Postal Inspector. Write on the mailing envelope of the letter or in a separate transmittal letter, "I received this in the mail and believe it may be illegal."

When you read my article about the program you will see that the letter you are asked to mail contains only a request that you be placed on a mailing list, and that you provide your email address for that purpose. Nothing more. You are not selling anything, nor are you asking anyone else to sell anything of great, or even meager value. This also is not illegal. This is no different than you asking to subscribe to a magazine and paying for it. With magazine subscriptions, essentially, you are asking to be placed on a mailing list so that you can be sent vast quantities of advertising each month and be happy to pay for it. Everyone knows that magazines are 95% or more, pure advertisement.
Now we get to the development and propagation of the system. Once you opt-in here, it is true that you place your name on the bottom of a list of recommended service providers and begin to advertise your service. Subscribers pay you for that service and in turn, excercise a franchise of their own. You become part of a much larger opt-in network and in so doing, can develop an opt-in mailing list of your own, which includes the benefit of additional cash to defray costs of operation. The subscription fee you pay for a magazine probably offsets production and shipping costs while the real profits for the publisher comes from the revenues generated by the 95% of advertising in the magazine. This form of propagation is pretty much the same as "viral marketing" that has become very popular on the internet. It is neither illegal nor immoral. In fact, it's brilliant and can provide exponential growth. It's a form of leveraging. You're working smart and not necessarily hard. And all who follow you have the same opportunity to join the network, and hopefully, prosper. Multi level marketing systems are similar. You join and tell 2 friends, and they join and tell 2 friends, and they join and tell 2 friends etc.


I will now print the article in its entirety. I was originally hoping to avoid this as it makes for one MASSIVE post, but it is your desire that I do so. I sincerely hope that you read everything that I present so that you can truly make an informed, intelligent judgement. Th original heading was perhaps, inappropriate so I am substituting one that may be more to your liking and is probably more suitable. There is perhaps one other problem. Sometimes "cut and paste" from one word processing format to another causes layout irregularities. This may very well happen here. For that, you will have to pardon me. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming in rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more than that on lunch!! Um, how come I am so not suprised by this post? Thanks for confirming the .1% of doubt I had about what the meat of this may have been.

Also, In my own opinion, my privacy is probably worth alot more than having my name and address posted all over the net.

Nobody I know wants to be spamed with hundreds if not thousands of emails....As far as the return on six dollars [quite doubtful ] This is a chain letter make no mistake Posting to two hundred news groups is in itself spaming. There are no legal instant get rich quick schemes,I remember seeing this exact letter online about four years ago,and seeing similar letters offline maybe twenty or more years. Just as a side note,these letters run in cycles if you pay attention .If and when the economy should drop these letters will be seen everywhere.

This single quotation is the heart and soul of what makes this a truly legal business venture and sets it apart from all the thousands of other garden variety chain letter type pyramid schemes that have proliferated since the invention of paper and ink. At least, that's what BigDaddyCash would have us believe.

The person who calls himself "BigDaddyCash", at least on this forum, is one of three things:

1. A bright 16 to 22 year old, probably (hopefully) still in school, who thinks this will make him some easy bucks. Possibly he wants the money for a car, a new accessory for his car, or a shit-hot new gaming system. This is his first encounter with a "get rich quick" scam of this nature.

Stay in school BigDaddy. I think you may have a good head on your shoulders but being a smartass doesn't make you smart, it just makes you an ass. This will not work for you or anyone else other than the scum at the top of the pyramid who started this thing. Make no mistake, this is illegal in every single country on the planet with a functioning postal service. Someday you'll look back and thank me. You're welcome in advance.

You're also welcome to NN forum. Lose the attitude and hang out with us for a while. Who knows, it might be fun.

2. A reasonably intelligent, but surprisingly naive adult, who is trying his luck at spamming a couple hundred forums, email lists, and user groups, honestly thinking maybe this will "earn" him some fast money. No telling what he needs it for. He's probably in debt.

Sorry to be the one to burst your bubble, BigDaddy. If you have a job, keep it. If not, get one. Take some night classes. Better still, learn to trade futures or options or forex. Yeah, it's hard work, but there are members of this forum who are living proof it's an honest way to earn a damn fine living.

Oh .. and the best part about chain letters ...

you do not really need to send the 6$ .. you just follow all of the above steps but not send the 1$ (or the letters) just spam the boards. since you will promote the list with your name all by youself, you can act like you sent the money ...

so the title should be how to turn 0$ to unlimited $ ( if you do it many times )

ROFLMAO! This is one of the worst chain letters I've ever come across and I've read (and deleted) many of them! What part of this is legal.... let's see... NONE!

1. Sending any part of a chain letter, including your "investment", via snail mail is illegal. Re-read what you posted about chain letters from the US Postal service.
2. Pyramid scams, like chain letters, are illegal because they DO NOT WORK and cause most people to lose money and their integrity. Also, cheating is easy to do and is done by most people that participate in illegal activities.
3. Spamming, either by email, forums, newsletters or any other web media, is illegal. Asking people to spam newsgroups is asking them to commit a crime.

I fully agree with CalvinT, Header, Gaby, Opie and anyone else who warns people against these kind of scams. If you truly are naive about these things, then please have a look around this forum and you'll learn quite a bit about internet scams and what to avoid. If you already know this is a scam, then take your BS elsewhere, because this is the NO BS Network.
